About Jake

Wheelchair-Connection was conceived by Jake Frank, my son. At the age of three he became the UCP poster child for Broward County, Florida. In high school he started the first support group for people in wheelchairs.

When Jake graduated high school in 2006 with a special diploma and less then a first grade reading level, he was excited about getting a job helping others with disabilities. Over two years went by and Jake could not find any work. During this time he started to develop wheelchair-connection. There was only one problem, Jake could not read. He always wanted to learn, but the school said he reached his potential.

In May 2008, Jake saw an ad for Sylvan and took the initiative to call and obtained a student loan. In five months his reading increased from a first to fourth grader and after nine months he starting reading at a sixth grade level. This was either a miracle or the Florida School System had failed to follow the law of "No Child Left Behind".

Jake reapplied for a new student loan in December 2008. He was turned down. He never missed a payment. Jake knows we don’t have the money for him to continue to go to school three times a week. A beautiful and intelligent child was let down and left behind.

Jake is determined to make Ability and Wheelchair-Connection a success so he can continue his education and help others.
